"The Multitude of Women": Continental Army Camp Followers

Though unwelcome by the Army leaders, especially General George Washington, the women who followed the Continental Army were following in the footsteps of previous army camp followers. This exhibit is intended to show how the women's contributions, first as unauthorized camp followers and later as women "on the strength" of the Army were integral to the success of the Continental Army and are still reflected in the make up of the current American military.
